International Living's
Live Overseas Conference
November 29th - December 2nd, 2005
(December 3rd – Special Bonus: Your Own Second Home In The Sun Expo Day)
Bahia Mar Beach Resort
Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Dear International Living Reader,
Imagine
lounging on your deck, a cocktail in hand, the quiet turquoise waters
of the Caribbean spread out before you…
Or
picture yourself relaxing in a flower-filled courtyard where lavender
bougainvillea tumbles over stucco walls, and the sweet perfume
of frangipani fills the air at dusk…
Maybe
you dream, instead, of a mountain retreat where the air is crisp,
and you live amidst expansive, snow-capped peaks…
|
|
Or perhaps it's an elegant pied-à-terre you envision…
an apartment with 20-foot ceilings and crown molding, where geraniums
fill your window boxes and your days and evenings are busy with the
cosmopolitan pleasures of big-city living…
"I've lived overseas for almost a decade. It's a pleasure and a challenge. International Living has found a way to reduce some of the challenge...while actually increasing the pleasure."
- William Bonner, President, Agora, Inc. |
Whatever your dream, I guarantee it: In the world's best havens, it can be yours… for pennies on the dollar.
In destinations like Panama, Nicaragua, Mexico, Honduras, France, Italy, Spain, New Zealand, Thailand, Argentina, Uruguay, Belize, Ecuador, Croatia, and beyond, you really can enjoy "The Good Life" -- less stress, more freedom, and better living. And more often than not, it'll cost you a fraction of what you pay to live back home.
Get the Inside Scoop from Expats Already Living Overseas…Doing What You're Dreaming You’d Like To Do, Too
I'd like to invite you to join me in Fort Lauderdale, November 29-December 3, 2005, for a whirlwind tour of the best opportunities for living, retiring, buying real estate, and starting a business in the world right now…plus tips, advice, and recommendations for how, exactly, how you can take advantage of them.
Over four power-packed days at our Live Overseas Conference, you'll pick up more insider intelligence and on-the-ground know-how than you ever could in a year spent researching on your own.
That's because we invite not only institutional experts -- like offshore experts, real estate agents and developers, and well-respected authorities on taxation, privacy, banking, and international law -- but also our own editorial staff and contributors and colleagues worldwide…plus the directors of our local offices.
As I said, these people are running businesses… building houses… enjoying a comfortable (and affordable) retirement… buying property in the world's best havens… They’re opening bank accounts, shipping their household goods, shopping for cars and appliances, arranging for broadband internet and cable TV, considering their health insurance options, paying their bills, managing their finances… Many have reinvented themselves in their new lives abroad. You’ll hear how they’re now able to follow the dreams they may have put aside for decades. They’re learning new languages…opening new businesses…taking up fishing, painting, wine-making…
You'll not only benefit from their formal presentations, but you'll have a chance to meet with all our experts and expats casually, have a drink at the bar -- and "pick their brains" as it were.
"It was clear to me after meeting the speakers and staff of International Living that they are committed to providing the most accurate information available to them at the time. This is certainly a group of very well informed global thinkers."
- Ann F, Hazel Green, WI |
This one-on-one, personal contact offers you invaluable networking opportunities and a chance to really get "the inside scoop" about everything from renovating a home… to shopping for groceries… from finding quality medical care… to getting young kids educated in a foreign land.
The Ideal Way to Focus Your Search for the Destination That's Right for You
We like to think of this program as a 72-hour insider's tour of the world's best destinations. It's the perfect way for you to focus your search for the place that's right for you and for the opportunities that best match your needs. You'll come away with…
- Our proven checklist to help you prioritize what it is you're really looking for. Beachside retreat... mountain hideaway... big-city apartment... quiet farmhouse... we'll help you define your wants and needs, and we'll tell you the countries where you'll find the best quality and values on everything from real estate to groceries.
- A plain-English interpretation of property laws around the world. Far from straightforward, property laws are in some places open to creative interpretation… in others very cut and dry. Find out, in easy-to-understand terms, what you should do to stay out of trouble and protect your investment.
- Ten things you should consider before you move overseas -- surefire ways to save yourself time, money, and hours of frustration later on....
- How to make money from the world’s most undervalued real estate … and the top destinations right now for international property investment. Find out about emerging markets where you can buy property today and resell it within months for profits... where to find raw land likely to appreciate many times over in the coming years...and where to buy rental property that more than pays for itself...
- How to reduce your tax burden and keep more of your hard-earned money. You cannot evade taxes. And you cannot eliminate them altogether. But you can preserve more of your wealth for generations to come. Find out what basic building blocks you need to construct your own offshore presence. Our experts will outline the steps you need to take and the pitfalls you’ll want to avoid.
- Where to find the most profitable business opportunities overseas. From a country where an investment in tourism gets you 10 years tax-free… to a nation where you could make 15-20% per annum on forestry projects...we'll tell you about the best places to launch a business overseas... and give you on-the-ground insights about what works... and what doesn't.

Where You Can Live Better for Less… Diversify Your Portfolio… and Enjoy More Freedom, Safety, and Privacy…
Quick-Fire Bonus Sessions Provide Practical, Actionable Advice
This November, we're including in our Live Overseas Conference agenda a series of special Quick-Fire Bonus Sessions, 15-minute interludes designed to "cut to the chase" and answer the questions we hear again and again.
We'll focus on such issues as --
- How to Find Your Dream Job Overseas
- Staying in Touch: Communicating From Anywhere in the World
- Understanding a Foreign Real Estate Market
- How to Get a Mortgage Overseas
Now, we know we can't tell you everything in the 15 minutes we'll devote to each topic. But that's OK, because we'll also provide you with a Special Report that corresponds to each Quick-Fire Bonus Session.
That means you'll have in-hand an in-depth discussion of each. These Special Reports, like the Quick-Fire Sessions themselves, are designed to be action-oriented. You'll find in each one not only practical advice from the field, but also names, numbers, email addresses, and more -- the hands-on resources you need to really make things happen.

Whether you're looking for a place to reinvent yourself... a retreat you can enjoy a month or two a year... or a destination where you can put down full-time roots... you'll be pleased with what you discover this November. You'll learn about --
- A glorious retreat just a couple of hours from the States where the weather lingers near 68 degrees Fahrenheit year-round, which means you can play golf January through December. Stores like Costco, Home Depot, and Wal-Mart stock familiar items at reasonable prices. Medical care is excellent… and a full check-up will run you just $30. Crime is nearly unheard of. And the pace of life is slow and gentle. For $120,000 you can enjoy a bright, two-bedroom house with a blossom-filled patio. tio.
- The country with the world’s best retirement program, which grants 25% off airfares… 15% off doctors' visits… discounts on groceries, and more. Not only that, but you needn’t even be retired. If you’re between 18 and 78, you can qualify… and you only need live there four months a year.
- The nation where you can wake up each morning to a warm croissant and a cup of frothy hot coffee... purchase rich creamy brie fresh from the farm... see the world's greatest masterpieces displayed in a King's palace... shop for a Hermes scarf… and stop for fresh-cut flowers on your way home… all in the same day. Yet here in Europe 's most touristed country, you can still find a pied-a-terre in the city for $166,000.
- The best place in Latin America to run a tourist-related business. If yours qualifies, you pay no income taxes for up to 10 years, no property taxes for up to 10 years, and you can bring in (or buy locally) all the supplies you need, from furniture and boats to linens and cash registers, tax-free. Depending on the type of project, you can qualify with an investment of as little as $30,000.
- • An extraordinarily affordable, friendly, and beautiful community in South America where the weather is near-perfect year-round. Nestled in a green valley, you can pick up a 5-bedroom house on two-and-a-half irrigated acres planted with fruit trees. Here the mountain and valley views are stunning.
- • Listed by Conde Nast as one of the world's top ten most beautiful islands, this gem of a European retreat is surrounded by sapphire waters and gets 2,700 hours of sunshine per year. Here lavender and wild flowers bloom with abandon, and clutches of quaint towns and villages dot the landscape. A home in need of restoration sells for $50,000 to $125,000.

72 Hours from Dream to Reality
Enjoy Fort Lauderdale Beaches, Parks, Outdoor Dining… and More…
While most of your days will be spent in meetings, we've left some room in our busy schedule for you to explore and enjoy Fort Lauderdale.
Fort Lauderdale beckons the outdoors-minded. Come in a day early or stay on a day or two after the program to play a round of golf or take a sail. The hotel itself is lovely. Just steps away, gentle ocean waves caress the shoreline, and a spacious, pristine beach invites you in for a day of sun, relaxation, and rejuvenation.
The Resort is located on Fort Lauderdale Beach, just minutes from the Fort Lauderdale International Airport, Port Everglades Cruise Ship Terminal and the Broward County Convention Center. The only thing limiting your activities is your imagination. Fort Lauderdale offers many things to see and do, but you can enjoy excellent shopping and other entertainment without ever leaving the comfort of the resort.
Of course, should you wish to explore a little you will find a wealth of opportunities nearby. Las Olas Boulevard & Riverfront - less than a mile from the resort (accessible by water taxi, by land, even on the Downtown trolley) is renowned for trendy shopping, dining and nightlife in a charming atmosphere. The Galleria, with more than 130 stores, is less than 4 miles from the resort. A little further is the Sawgrass Outlet Mall with more than 400 name brand stores and popular restaurants.
If you’re looking for more than shopping there’s an array of activities on and around the Bahia Mar Yachting Center. You may want to view the magnificent homes along the 300 miles of waterways or take a water taxi to one of the many waterfront restaurants. The Jungle Queen departs several times a day for our docks. It offers a narrated tour of the Intracoastal Waterway and the million dollar waterfront homes.
The hotel itself has a swimming pool, four tennis courts (all lighted for nighttime play) or you can rent your own small boat and tour the area at your own pace or spend the day fishing with friends.
As a conference attendee, you can take advantage of a group rates. Marina and Oceanview rooms are just $145 a night (single occupancy) or $159 (double occupancy). Oceanfront rooms are also available at $165 (single) or $179 (double).
This rate includes full breakfast buffet daily, resort fee and use of the fitness center but does not include tax.
We have negotiated for the hotel to allowing our attendees to take advantage of the discounted rate from Friday, November 25th to Friday, December 9th to accommodate your needs (based on availability).
To reserve a room, call the hotel directly at 1-800-327-8154. To take advantage of the special discount, be sure to identify yourself as an International Living conference attendee. (To see more of the hotel, visit their site http://www.bahiamarhotel.com/) |

I encourage you to come to this conference with your idea of the perfect locale in mind -- that mythic haven you muse about -- and let our speakers help you match that dream to a place that really exists.
Many of our contributing editors and in-country representatives will be on hand in Fort Lauderdale, among them Mandy Fairthcloth and Brandon Clogston in town from Panama, Amber Garrison from France, Dan Prescher and Suzan Haskins from Mexico, Gail Geerling from Nicaragua, Lee Harrison from Ecuador, Paul Reynolds and his wife Maria from Argentina (they’ll introduce you to the opportunities in Uruguay right now, too, where they also have an office), Carol Milligan from Italy, Ron and Janine Goben from Honduras, and Steenie Harvey, our roving editor in Europe, who will fly in from Ireland.
From them you’ll gain invaluable on-the-ground insights about everything from the actual cost of day-to-day life to the trick to getting your belongings into the country duty-free. Find out what brought them to their adopted homes (and the nearby countries they report on)… and discover what they like (and dislike) about each.
And that's just the beginning. We've also invited a whole host of additional speakers, including expatriate entrepreneurs who will talk about what businesses they have underway, the unique challenges they face, and the lessons they've learned.
On the roster, too, are real estate agents and developers from some of our favorite countries as well as local attorneys. They'll detail for you the ins and outs of buying property and the various ways to get residency and citizenship in the countries we believe make the most sense.
Where Real Estate Offers a Hedge against U.S. Markets… and the Potential for Fast, Triple-Digit Returns
You know, beyond the attraction of comfortable, good-value living, many of the nations we'll profile make sense, too, as places to invest for profit outside the U.S. markets.
Adding international real estate to your investment portfolio is an excellent way to diversify your holdings… and a hedge against a sour economy at home.
Identify the right market at the right time, and you can see returns of 800% or more in as little as three to five years. This November we'll show you where and how to do it.
You'll hear from Lief Simon, editor of Global Real Estate Investor, who will profile his picks -- the undiscovered destinations where investors who get in early could profit handsomely.
For instance, there's a nation where you can buy excellent-quality property for 30 cents on the dollar… which translates to land where you can build your dream home for less than $10,000 an acre (that's in a gated community with a clubhouse, pool, polo field, and more) or an elegant apartment in a good neighborhood of a cosmopolitan city for as little as $62,000.
In "the Costa Rica of this Decade," political, economic, and social stability has put the nation on the fast-track to First World status. En route, however, there's money to be made on coastal property and colonial-era homes -- if you buy now, before the place is "discovered."
This November not only will you hear about the destinations that hold the most profit potential right now, but Lief will also talk about what it is you look for in a country when you're weighing the probability that property prices will go up. Find out what indicators to watch and what warning signs should spell caution.

Learn How to Use Overseas Destinations to Protect Your Personal Privacy and Financial Freedom

|
| For many -- perhaps you included -- this interest in living and investing overseas is driven, more than anything else, by an urge to escape. As you know, in the months following the September 11, 2001 attacks on the U.S., Congress hastily passed several laws that significantly curb personal privacy and financial freedom. |
But by taking advantage of certain offshore opportunities, you can reclaim some measure of privacy and better protect your hard-earned assets and investments.
To help you do so, we've invited several "offshore" experts to speak to you, among them Robert Bauman, former member of the U.S. House of Representatives and editor of The Sovereign Society Offshore A-Letter and Larry Grossman, Managing Director of Sovereign International Asset Management, LLC.
From them you'll learn what to look for in an offshore jurisdiction and get an up-to-date report on the ones worth considering today. Plus they'll outline for you some of the most effective, legal ways to use offshore structures -- including how to take your IRA or pension plan offshore.
You Gain a Truly Comprehensive, Up-to-Date Picture of the World's Best Opportunities
Rest assured, you'll come away from these four days with a truly comprehensive -- and current -- understanding of the best opportunities available to you overseas.
When they take the floor, our presenters won't just rely on last year's notes. They'll present up-to-date slide shows about each place we recommend, which means you'll see current photos of the regions we think make the most sense as well as pictures of actual properties on offer.
 |
Plus we'll hand each attendee a comprehensive Country Profile
of every destination our speakers focus on. Each one of these printed
reports is prepared within 10 days of the conference and contains
exactly the kind of practical information you'll want to know if
you're considering relocating or investing in a country, including
a representative selection of real estate listings. |
Taken together, these Country Profiles (nearly 100 pages of on-the-ground intelligence) provide an extraordinary resource. It's like a detailed, printed handbook to the world's best opportunities -- something you can refer to again and again. These Country Profiles, which represent a $1,000 value, are not available anywhere else. You simply cannot buy them. Yet they are yours, free, when you attend our upcoming Live Overseas Conference, November 29-December 3, 2005 in Fort Lauderdale.
Quick-Fire Bonus Sessions Answer Your Most Pressing Questions |
That's not all. For this November/December program we'll also include, scattered throughout the four days, a series of special Quick-Fire Bonus Sessions, 15-minute sessions designed to answer some of the questions we've heard most frequently over the years.
We'll hone in on issues like --
- How to Find Your Dream Job Overseas
- Staying in Touch: Communicating From Anywhere in the World
- Understanding a Foreign Real Estate Market
- How to Get a Mortgage Overseas
With each Quick-Fire Bonus Session you'll also receive a corresponding Special Report. Each one offers not only a thorough discussion of the subject at hand and useful advice from the field, but also the practical resources you need to take action.
You'll find inside names, phone numbers, email addresses, step-by-step instructions… exactly what you need to follow-up on what you've learned so you're able, immediately, to start transforming your dream into reality.

We've arranged for two cocktail parties – and a Lifetime and Roundtable Members special event - so you'll have an opportunity to rub elbows in a casual environment with your fellow participants and speakers. If you're traveling by yourself, please don't hesitate to come.
You'll find you're among like-minded attendees -- interesting, entrepreneurial, well-traveled folks who share your interests. You'd be amazed at the number of friendships -- and even business partnerships -- that have sprung up among attendees of this conference in past years. |
We'll be organizing some informal social events, too -- making sure folks are headed to dinner together and suggesting some activities you might like to do while you're in town. Point is: This promises to be not only a life-changing event, but also an enjoyable and fun getaway.

Meet the Experts You'll Hear from in Florida
We'll ensure you're well-connected by the time this conference comes to a close. You'll meet and hear from the staff in our field offices and from a whole host of additional speakers -- experts in everything from international real estate to offshore banking.
